The paper presents the results of researches made in 2003. They focused on opportunities and threats that appeared for traditional retailers because of electronic commerce. Another: aim of the researches was to identify the level of commercial usage of Internet. The results show that the retailers do not perceive the e-shops as important competitors and most of them do not plan to start their own electronic business. Probably one of the most important reason of that was the lack of adequate knowledge of e-commerce.
