Entrevistas con escritores latinoamericanos judíos - NCN OPUS-2023/49/B/HS2/00903 (dataset)
Abstract
This dataset comprises two semi-structured interviews with renowned Argentine writers of Jewish descent: Martín Kohan and Saúl Sosnowski. The conversations delve into the multifaceted nature of Jewish identity in Latin America, exploring its cultural, political, and historical dimensions. Kohan reflects on his early religious education, his rejection of formal religiosity, and the persistent questioning of what it means to “be Jewish,” framing identity as a dynamic process marked by tension and self-interrogation. He addresses issues such as assimilation versus tradition, the role of antisemitism in shaping identity, and cultural markers like klezmer music and humor. The interview also examines intersections between Jewishness, literary practice, and political ideology, alongside experiences of hostility in contemporary contexts. Sosnowski’s perspective complements these reflections by situating Jewish identity within broader debates on memory, diaspora, and intellectual engagement in Latin American cultural and political frameworks. Together, these interviews offer rich qualitative material for research on identity construction, memory politics, and the interplay between personal narratives and collective history.
