Abstract
The article presents posttraumatic growth phenomena, which was introduced by Tedeschi and Calhoun to identify positive changes experienced as a result of struggle with trauma. These changes include a greater sense of one’s personal strength, increased relations to others, a changed philosophy of life, such as greater appreciation for life, and spiritual growth. The concept, epidemiology, and first of all determinants of posttraumatic growth are presented, among them external factors – related to trauma, such as intensity of traumatic events, the intensity of negative outcomes (such as level of PTSD), and individuals factors, among them coping strategies and personality features (such as optimism, sense of coherence, self-esteem, self- -efficacy, resiliency) of subject who have experienced trauma.
