Kilka uwag tłumacza o sztuce przekładu dramatów
Streszczenie
An interpreter always seeks and rediscovers the meaning of words, „refreshes” them continuously verifying whether they express their author’s original intention. An interpreter working with a piece of art experiences its second birth in a new language, in his own language. In order to use an appropriate word he has to reach with his imagination the time and space in which the author „seeking a word for himself” found it and no other. It’s one and only equivalent in the other language must root in the same truth. An interpreter in his inability to find words, feeling lack of adequacy, unites with the same search for the indefinable that the author was part of. That experience of an interpreter can be compared to that of an actor – how not to lose the truth that lies within the masterpiece, expressing it by means of his language, how to root it in his truth, the truth of his (our) language.
