Motiv Edipa u srpskoj dramskoj književnosti
Abstract
The myth about Oedipus is one of the most popular subjects, not just in Greek literature, but in the whole world literature from the classical period to these days. The motive about incest (between mother and son) is popular in literature from Sofokle’s period and his tragedy Oedipus the king, and also has it’s model in serbian epic literature, especialy in mythological poems, like as in most of medieval legends, in which a folk poet was found inspiration for his poem about Foundling Simeon.
The first play about this motive was written by Jovan Sterija Popović and entitled Foundling Simeon (1830). Unfortunately, it wasn’t staged until the 1981. (the director was Dejan Mijaĉ, and it was played in Jugoslovensko dramsko pozorińte). Jovan Sterija Popović put in his play some of his visions and made a tragedy about a violent father who had a son with his own, beautiful, daughter, and that son one day, married his own mother. So, we have here a double incest.
After this play, comedian Branislav Nusić decided to write his own play, and made Foundling, but he used the folk poem Foundling Momir (which is a variation of the poem Foundling Simeon). His tragedy was played in 1923. in The National Theatre in Belgrade. Branislav Nusić used historical facts from the period in which tsar Duńan was the ruler of Serbia (around the year 1349.). The importance of his play, is in it's costume which is the sign of influence that Bizant made on serbian church art, especially in the XVI century.
Todor Manojlovićwritten his drama Foundling Simeon which was staged in The National Theatre of Sarajevo, in 1940. The young writer Milena Marković, wrote her play Foundling Simeon in 2006. Her play won many awards in domestic festivals, and it was announced as the most significant play of the 52. Sterijino pozorje. Milena Markovic has her own view about the myth and poem in which we have the motive of Oedipus. Her Foundling Simeon is a drama about the joy of life, because life is not just a hard thing that we have to finish, but it also has beautiful moments.
That was the short view on myth about Oedipus, and the motives that were made in Serbian literature (drama and poetry) through three centuries – the XIX, the XX and the XXI century.
