Główne determinanty migracji stałych w Polsce w latach 2003–2008
Abstract
The present article covers an attempt to identify the basic determinants for permanent migra-
tions in Poland in the period of 2003 – 2008. For this purpose, a multi-variable regression analysis
was applied. On the basis of data of a panel nature, fixed effects models were constructed.
The following were taken into account among those variables which characterize migrations
in communes: the inflow index, the outflow index and the index of inflow from towns. The set
of potential factors of migrations included those variables which characterize the level of local
enterprise, the situation on the local labor market, the affluence of the commune and housing
resources.
It was demonstrated on the basis of an econometric analysis that attempts to improve one’s
housing conditions constituted the main determinant of permanent migrations, which were domi-
nated by the cases of the change of the place of residence within the same province. The affluence
of the commune and the unemployment rate also constituted very important factors, while the
unemployment rate proved to be a factor having a negative impact on the mobility of population,
which inhibited both migration inflows and outflows.
