Felieton, esej, reportaż — próba kognitywnego ujęcia ich hybryd genologicznych

Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the perception of media and press genres. It outlines the development of genological research, with the focus on literary, linguistic and media genology. It compares the genre characteristics of the column (Pol. felieton) and the reportage (Pol. reportaż), as well as the column and the essay (Pol. esej). The article assumes that specific press genres constitute mental fields that may undergo a process of blending. Drawing on the theory of cognitive blends (Agnieszka Libura), the article outlines the functioning of two genre blends labelled — for the purpose of the text — columntage (a blend of ‘column’ and ‘reportage’; Pol. feliertaż) and columnsay (a blend of ‘column’ and ‘essay’; Pol. feliesej). The genre blend of columntage is examined on the basis of the work of a sports journalist, Jerzy Chromik, and the genre blend of columnsay — on the basis of texts collected in the volume Świat w oczach sąsiadki [The World through the Eyes of a Neighbour] by Ryszard Koziołek The analyzed texts by Jerzy Chromik, published in the volume Remanent [The Inventory], and by Ryszard Koziołek are reprints of press articles, but they have been composed according to a new organizing principle. The genre amalgams they contain are presented as genre hybrids.
