Status miejsc teatralnych w mieście w obliczu lockdownu w latach 2020–2021

Abstract

This article concerns the spatial, social and artistic status of places of theatrical activity during restrictions on theatre activities, and the organization of theatrical events with audience participation, in Poland due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020–2021. An attempt to assess the meaning of ‘place’ for theatre was based on a review of the literature in the field of human geography, theatre and performance studies, as well as personal observations and materials on the functioning of theatres in Poland during the COVID-19 limitations. The analysis shows that ‘place’ is seen as essential for the full functioning of a theatre, but theatre is not a basic service. Although attempts were made to treat online ‘space’ as a new ‘place’ for theatre, the personnel, artists and theatregoers alike missed an actual theatre in a physical location. Additionally, the lack of location itself has been interpreted from the perspective of cultural geography and cultural anthropology, which both emphasise the social valuation of space.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest przestrzenny, społeczny i artystyczny status miejsc działalności teatralnej w okresie zawieszenia pracy teatrów i organizacji wydarzeń teatralnych z udziałem publiczności w Polsce w związku z pandemią COVID-19 w latach 2020–2021. Podjęto próbę określenia znaczenia miejsca dla teatru na podstawie przeglądu literatury z zakresu geografii człowieka, wiedzy o teatrze i performatyki, a także materiałów na temat funkcjonowania teatrów w Polsce w czasie ograniczeń wynikających z pandemii oraz własnych obserwacji. Z analizy wynika, że miejsce jest postrzegane jako niezbędne dla pełnego działania teatru, przy czym teatr nie stanowi usługi pierwszej potrzeby. Mimo że próbowano traktować „przestrzeń” online jako nowe „miejsce” dla teatru, to jednak artystom, pracownikom oraz widzom brakowało tego rodzaju sztuki w fizycznej lokalizacji. Interpretacji poddano również sam brak miejsca z punktu widzenia geografii kultury i antropologii kulturowej, w których podkreśla się społeczne wartościowanie przestrzeni.
