Abstract

Addressed in chapter description of toponymy is a section of research aimed to determine the form and function of toponyms in literature. The study is a micro- and macrotoponymy in Stanisław Pigoń’s diary From Kombornia into the World. Toponymy is presented fairly, but without extensive linguistic arguments. Geographical aspects were given up to function, guiding the diary-literature. Toponyms act primarily in the diary-literature function, and localization and emotional information, crafting the realistic feel of the piece. Spatial perspective of From Kombornia into the World is made up of authentic names only. Numerous macrotoponyms and microtoponyms, referred to by the author in the first chapters, served to highlight the work of local colour, quoted folk form of farms and estates’ naming, based on the popular naming models, emphasize the documentary authenticity. Genetic and linguistic analysis of topographical naming, both quoted and unquoted in toponymic records, exhibits author’s far-reaching attention to the reliable reproduction of extra-linguistic reality
