Konsolidacja w sektorze usług bankowych Unii Europejskiej
Abstract
The European Union banking sector lias been intensively changing for some years. One of
the most important processes which affects its shape is with no doubt consolidation. The consolidation
is a result of two different events: globalization of financial markets and deepening the
EU integration, specially building the Economic and Monetary Union and the common financial
market within the EU. As the result of consolidation the amount of credit institutions functioning
on the European banking market has been decreasing, but the effectiveness of the rest of them
has been rising. The other important result of consolidation is establishing of financial conglomerates
which offer the whole range of financial services under one roof. One can expect that in
the next years the consolidation processes will intensify as the European credit institutions have
to compete not only among themselves but with the banks from the third countries as well.
