Kultura Łodzi w tekstach publicystycznych Mariana Piechala

Abstract

The article aims to present the multifaceted picture of cultural life in Łódź, which emerges from the hitherto unexplored journalistic work of Marian Piechal – a Łódź poet, essayist, and translator, as well as an active participant and organiser of local literary life. The source material includes several dozen articles published in the local press. Texts from the 1930s and 1960s proved to be particularly important for the research. In order to organise the argument, the extensive source material has been divided into several dominant thematic areas (the Łódź literature, the Łódź literary community, the city’s cultural life, the Łódź literary award, and the Łódź theatre). The texts by Piechal – a direct witness and participant of the events described – are a valuable source of knowledge about the Łódź literary community and the cultural life of the city over several decades. They reveal the author’s attitude towards Łódź and its literature. Highlighting the themes present in them may be an interesting addition to the intensive research on the history and literature of Łódź that has been ongoing for several years.

Artykuł ma na celu ukazanie wieloaspektowego obrazu łódzkiego życia kulturalnego, wyłaniającego się z niezbadanej dotychczas twórczości publicystycznej Mariana Piechala – łódzkiego poety, eseisty i tłumacza, aktywnego uczestnika i organizatora lokalnego życia literackiego. Materiał źródłowy obejmuje kilkadziesiąt artykułów opublikowanych na łamach prasy lokalnej. Szczególnie istotne dla badań okazały się teksty z lat 30. i 60. Dla uporządkowania rozważań szeroki materiał źródłowy został zaprezentowany z podziałem na kilka dominujących kręgów tematycznych (literaturę łódzką, łódzkie środowisko literackie, życie kulturalne miasta, łódzką nagrodę literacką i teatr łódzki). Teksty Piechala, bezpośredniego świadka i uczestnika opisywanych zdarzeń, są cennym źródłem wiedzy o łódzkim środowisku literackim i życiu kulturalnym miasta na przestrzeni kilku dekad. Ukazują stosunek autora do Łodzi i związanej z nią literatury. Wyeksponowanie obecnych w nich wątków może stanowić interesujące dopełnienie trwających od kilku lat intensywnych badań nad historią i literaturą Łodzi.
