The main aim of this PRELUDIUM 20 project was to assess the impact of selected PSMs, i.e. syringic acid, caffeic acid, vanillic acid and salicylic acid on: (1) the expression of functional genes responsible for the initial stages of MCPA biodegradation and (2) MCPA biodegradation by strains isolated from agricultural catchments and endophytic bacteria. Within the project, ten strains from agricultural areas that potentially degrade MCPA were isolated and identified using 16S rRNA sequencing. Additionally, five endophytic strains were selected for further experiments. The following strains isolated from agricultural catchments demonstrated tolerance to high concentrations of MCPA in liquid cultures: Acinetobacter sp., Acinetobacter calcoaceticus and Leclercia adecarboxylata. One of the endophytic strains, i.e. Pseudomonas monteilii exhibited distinctively higher MCPA tolerance. After four days liquid culture enriched with MCPA (as the sole carbon source), 11% reduction of MCPA was observed for P. monteilii, while for the other strains the loss of MCPA was negligible. Among the tested PSMs, syringic acid and salicylic acid exerted a significant effect on the growth of two selected endophytic strains, i.e. Pseudomonas monteilii and Paenarthrobacter nicotinovorans. The presence of tfdA functional genes was not confirmed in the isolated strains, therefore the whole genome sequencing of selected strains was performed (bioinformatics analysis in progress). Additionally, plant growth promoting properties (PGPP) of the tested strains and their tolerance to heavy metals were tested: endophytic strains were positively tested for most of the studied PGPP, whereas, strains isolated from agricultural areas showed a wider spectrum of heavy metals tolerance.pl_PL
