Abstract

The article contains a statistical analysis of income effects of food subsidies performed from the viewpoint of the following aspects: - overall volume and structure of food subsidies in the years 1980-1986; - overall volume of these subsidies in the context of other alternative streams of the population's incomes; - share of redistributive effects of welfare prices in total incomes of the population. The performed analysis has confirmed shortcomings of the hitherto existing system of subsidizing prices of primary food stuffs both in the economic and social aspects. In the economic aspects, the price redistribution weakens motivational impact of incomes from work. In the social aspect, the actual diffrentiation of income benefits flowing from obtained redistributive effects is little effective from the point of view of realization of welfare goals
