Abstract
Main points of interest of following paper are relations between family members of which one suffers from bipolar disorder. Relation were both observed directly as well as derived from bipolar disorder forum postings. Research was conducted to answer following questions: does having the disease leads to family dysfunction? Does the illness causes relation degradation on all levels as a rule? What changes are introduced to family functioning when disorder appears? Which functions are the most limited by the disorder? Based on results we conclude that transience of diseased person’s behaviour leads to undermining of material function. Also, most limited bond is the one between sick family member and the rest of the family. Bipolar disorder causes decay of basic family functions to all of its members.
