Ściana w kropki, czyli jak zaszyfrować „jedność bytu”

Abstract

W artykule omawiam i interpretuję projekt artystyczny Wolnej Pracowni PGR Art z 2009 roku, zatytułowany Alfabet, związany z 70. rocznicą śmierci Witkacego. Do działań związanych z projektem należało nadsyłanie przez internautów cytatów z twórczości Witkiewicza, ich przetłumaczenie na kod binarny, a następnie na system graficzny, złożony z sekwencji mniejszych i większych czarnych kropek. Ostatecznie artyści wybrali jeden cytat: „Sztuka jest odrębnym światem, jest ostatecznym odbiciem jedności bytu” (z powieści 622 upadki Bunga, czyli Demoniczna kobieta) i umieścili odpowiedni wzór na ścianie jednego z bloków na gdańskim osiedlu Zaspa. Proces powstawania muralu (począwszy od pierwotnego ogłoszenia artystów) oraz jego dokumentacja stanowią integralną część projektu i są istotne dla sensu całości.

In the article I discuss and interpret the Alphabet project by Wolna Pracownia PGR Art artistic group, connected with the 70th anniversary of the death of Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (2009). The project includes sending quotations from Witkacy’s works to the artists by the Internet users, translating them into the binary numeral system and then into the graphical system of smaller and bigger black dots sequences. Finally the artists chose one quotation: „Art is the separate world, is the final reflection of the unity of being” (from The 622 Downfalls of Bungo or The Demonic Woman) and painted the proper pattern as a mural in Zaspa estate in Gdańsk. The process of creating the mural (including artists’ advertisement at the very beginning) and its documentation are important to understand the final meaning of the whole project.
