Streszczenie
In 1976 Igor Melchuk, one of the most outstanding Soviet linguists, was dismissed
from the Institute of Linguistics of the USSR Academy of Science in Moscow. He had
failed to pass a recertification and lost his position as senior research associate for his
political nonconformism. The present paper aims at presenting the events as well as
ideological situation that determined the decision made by Professor Igor Melchuk to
emigrate from the Soviet Union.
