Abstract
Some new views being an expression of an alternative approach to processes of economic growth and development including economic progress have appeared in the contemporary Western economic thought. There is increasingly stronger a conviction about the necessity of approaching processes of changes not only in quantitative indices but also in qualitative ones. Emergence of these views is a reflection of doubts as regards prospects of unceasing economic growth and benefits ensuing from this growth for social welfare. Economics in its present shape is not able to help in solving many problems of the contemporary world. Consequently, new solutions are sought in the sphere of the so-called alternative economics. In West Germany, the Green Party belongs to this trend. Its concepts become quite popular among certain circles of the West German society. An achievement of the Green Party is the fact that it has drawn attention to cumulating threats of economic growth, while its weakness are postulates aimed at accomplishment of goals which in conditions of the West German reality may prove to be fully utopian.
