Abstract
The article will introduce problems associated with methodological, ethical and practical aspects of designing and conducting research among people providing sex services. On the basis of the literature as well as one’s own study of escort agencies, dilemmas and choices made on successive stages of research will be considered. Above all, I will concentrate on the phase of negotiating admittance, methodological challenges associated with examining the hidden populations and the phase of building relations with the examined and transformation of this phase during the project execution. What is more, careful consideration will be given to the influence of the researcher’s gender on the research process as well as to ethical dilemmas related to examination of the circle of commercial sex services.
