Abstract
The aim of the research was to define social, economic and cultural transformations in local rural communities in relation to cities in the period of system transformation, with reference to real socialism. Research hypotheses were put through verification. Changing economic relations at the time of the system transformation entail the spheres of vocational activities. The level of income determined by social and vocational structure defines people’s material status and living standards. Increasing rate of absorption of new mass media, communication technology and transport entails changes in the character of the social bonds. Transformations in everyday life shape the way, level and quality of satisfying the needs connected with food, clothing and material services, sport, recreation, pass time activities, as well as health protection, social and public security.
