Abstract
The focus of this article is to reflect on how exactly the way of informing a patient about a certain diagnosis (cancer) influences his attitude towards the illness itself, therapy and also towards other doctors consulting the cancer patient during his treatment (psychological aspects of doctor-patient communication, communication techniques used in the relation, a holistic approach regarding the patient and his family).
The article mainly concerns the identification of major needs and expectations of patients coming across a cancer diagnosis for the first time regarding the doctors communication such information to the family.
