Abstract

The recent studies on the ecosystem services confirm the role and significance of the natural environment and its resources for the development of the human well-being. These studies especially strongly emphasize the protection of the living natural resources for the biodiversity conservation, which is necessary to maintain the essential ecological processes, and ensuring the sustainability of use of these resources. The Europe 2020 Strategy also emphasizes the need for resource-efficient and effective management in the context of intelligent, sustainable and inclusive growth. In this article the natural environment and its protection are analyzed in the context of the local development concept and of stimulating sustainable development of the territory.
