Abstract
Contemporary research in the sciences related to local development highlight the
role of the territory as a factor conditioning the development of enterprises. The concept
of territory but takes on new meaning and is being redefined – not determined by
traditional physical space designated administrative boundaries, but it refers to the
socio-institutional network of relations between local actors joined a community of historical
experience, a common culture, their own "language" of communication, which
elements building the identity of the co-creation of the territory, acting resource specific
to the enterprise. As defined territory is therefore the one hand, a resource for businesses,
on the other hand is a product of internal relations.
The purpose of this article is to present the key elements of territory building,
such as social capital, institutions and regulations, as essential conditions for the development
of enterprises.
