Abstract

Analysis of movement of the world prices for merchant ships is an extremely difficult task. The crisis which affected adversely the navigation and shipyards in capitalist countries in the seventies led to checking the development of the world merchant fleet and to a considerable decline in the world production of ships. This situation is additionally complicating the already complex mechanism of price formation for merchant ships in the world market, which in the present period of poor demand does not cover, as a rule, the costs of their construction. A specific nature of exploitation and trade in this untypical commodity accounts for a big demand witnessed today for forecasts concerning changes in prices-forecasts based on models which in a synthetic way reflect the whole complexity of the movement of factors and correlations creating a definite price situation in this specific commodity market.
