Nowa przestrzeń miejska dla nowych mieszczan. Studium ulicy Mariackiej w Katowicach

Abstract

Autor od kilkunastu lat samodzielnie lub w zespołach badawczych prowadzi badania nad funkcjonowaniem przestrzeni publicznych miast Górnego Śląska. Poniższy tekst jest próbą refleksji, która zrodziła się podczas ich trwania. Autor skoncentrował się w nim na problematyce nowych mieszczan i funkcji, które przestrzeń publiczna pełni wobec nich. Celem tekstu jest pokazanie katowickiej ulicy Mariackiej jako przestrzeni dla tej grupy społecznej. W początkowej części tekstu podjęta została próba pokazania problematyki tworzenia się nowych mieszczan w Polsce. Następnie autor przedstawia specyfikę ulicy Mariackiej. W kolejnej części omówione zostały funkcje przestrzeni publicznych. W zasadniczej części tekstu przedstawiono funkcje, które spełnia wobec nowych mieszczan katowicka ulica Mariacka.

The author, individually or as a member of a team, has been conducting research on functioning of the public space in Upper Silesia towns for a few years now. The text presents a few reflections which have arisen as a result of these studies. The author concentrates on the problems of new bourgeois and functions which public space performs toward them. Showing the Katowice Mariacka street as the space for new bourgeois is the main aim of this article. At the beginning the author attempts to present issues related to the formation of new bourgeois in Poland. Then he describes the specific character of the analyzed Mariacka street and defines functions of the public spaces in general. The main part of the text is dedicated to the relations between Mariacka Street and new bourgeois. As a result it has become possible to define the exact meaning of that street for new bourgeois in Katowice.
