Moda na archeologię w środowisku polskiego ziemiaństwa w XIX wieku
Abstract
he fad of archaeological monuments collecting and excavations developed on Polish lands in the XIXth century. Among collectors and archeologists were many landlords. They the most often did archaeological researches in their own landed estates or their friends and neighbours’ properties. The reason of excavations were the most often discoveries which were random during field work. Amateurs of archaeology were interested in ground objects, like barrows and sometimes spelunking. And in time the business of archaeology developed so much that Polish landlords organized special excavations, which were treated as an interesting element of social life. The characteristic fad of doing the XIXth century archaeological research brought very interesting results. The excavations which were carried out by fans of archaeology, brought many interesting discoveries. Nowadays the part of them belong to museum collections.
Moreover, the results of the XIXth century studies which were done by archeologists, had the influence on widening of knowledge about the oldest history of Polish lands.
