Abstract
COMPARATIVE APPROACH TO THE COGNITIVE POETICS OF
POLISH TRANSLATIONS OF PSALMS.
COGNITIVE FRAMES FOR THE CONCEPTS OF ‘IMPRISONMENT’ AND ‘REDEMPTION’
The article presents a multilingual analysis of Polish, English and Swedish translations of Psalms and their interpretations with reference to cognitive poetics. The author of the article uses notions such as semantic domain, embodiment and conceptual frame. An epic conceptual framework of the Bible, which contains the basic story of an exodus, redemption and salvation appears also in the Psalms. The story about the Israelites being delivered from Egyptian slavery can be regarded as a mythical and symbolic one, however, it cannot be deprived of the most important, real, physical domain, which is its main point of reference.
