Abstract

The science of book, as well as the other disciplinary sciences is not free from certain philosophical principles, moreover, rarely expressed openly. In Jan Muszkowski’s works can be seen influence Herbert Spencer’s, Auguste Comte’s and Emile Durkheim’s. Positivism and scientism had an impact on the method and direction of bibliological research of Jan Muszkowski. He compared the life of book to the human’s life according to the biologism principles. He saw the value of the book in the role that it plays in the society. Muszkowski also dealt with the scientific status of bibliology and terminology problems within the science of book.
