Dynamika i kierunki zmian działalności gospodarczej podmiotów średnich w Polsce w latach 1998–2011

Abstract

The subjective and objective structure of Polish economy in its various branches, as well as the entities determining its development have undergone the privatization, restructuring and adjustment processes since 1990. However, relatively few studies focus on both business’ structural changes and the direction of polish enterprises’ development, including cross-sectional studies (class size, business types, ownerships forms, etc). Therefore, it is justified to carry out such research in hope, that the outcomes will create fundaments for a better understanding of processes carried out during the economic system’s transformation phase and a basis for evaluation of polish economy’s structural development results. The assessment of structural transformation policy’s goals accomplishment can be measured on the basis of current companies sizes and business activities. Firstly, the outcomes of such analysis are divided into individual components of the structure according to the ascending or descending trends. That is followed by the measurement and analysis of the intensity of structural changes. Designed methods aim at specifying not only the quantitative amount of changes in every individual element of the whole structure, but also in the level of transformation in studied objectives during analyzed periods. This paper presents the analysis of outcomes of changes in the medium-sized companies, ie. Employing 50–249 employees in 1998–2011, by the use of metrics, which express the production potential and characterize the expenditures incurred in order to increase the productivity. The indicators also present the effectiveness of the business activities according to their size. The changes in medium-sized enterprises are described with such measures, as the number of employees, the value of assets, the value of investments and the value of sales. On the basis of the analysis of volume changes, the directions and trends in the sizes of polish medium-sized companies during the analyzed period of time can be established.
