Abstract

The publication describing the achievements of Baron Pierre de Coubertin in the field of the resurrection of Modern Olympism based on the model of Hellenic Olympic Games is of socio-historical nature. The author emphasizes that the idea of Modern Olympism was accompanied by measures ensuring harmony between "spirit and body," that is sport, art and literature through simultaneous organization of art contests during Olympic Games. Today, harmony between sport and culture manifests itself through numerous art and literature competitions, exhibitions, concerts, educational programs and above all through the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games, which, thanks to modern media techniques, reach a multimillion community.
