Abstract

The presented publication cycle concerns the measurement of inflation using scanner data and the analysis of the properties of price and quantity indices and indicators under conditions of high dynamics in the structure of the inflation basket. The research encompasses both an evaluation of existing methods and the development of new methodological solutions, along with their empirical verification. The obtained results indicate the limitations of classical bilateral indices and support the recommendation of methods tailored to the specific characteristics of high-granularity and high-frequency data (multilateral indices and indicators). In particular, the cycle of works emphasises the role of methodological decisions on the part of the statistical office, such as the choice of data aggregation level and data filtering procedures, while also identifying the factors that determine the results of price dynamics measurement. The contribution of the work lies in extending the toolkit for inflation analysis and in providing conclusions of relevance to modern price statistics.
