In the article, we present selected observations and methodological reflections from the “Textile Sociology” project, which we have been implementing with the same group of participants since the beginning of 2024. The project involves the use of textiles in collective art-making, which simultaneously serves to explore the social experience of this type of engagement and its meanings in local and global contexts. At the centre of this activity is the creative research process. Methodologically, it is based on participation, cooperation, and collective creation, which is resulting in a textile artwork. Writing and photography (several selected photos are included in the article) are also considered as integral elements of the textile-based research and action. The aim of the article is an attempt at a typology of different kinds of pleasure related to the research exploring the social, material, and symbolic possibilities of textile art. For that purpose, we distinguish and describe: pleasure in research, pleasure in handicrafts, the embodied (somaesthetic) pleasure, the community pleasure, the pleasure of consumption, and pleasure in difference and diversity. In this way, we are trying to respond to the double deficit in contemporary social sciences – i.e. in pleasure and in material research – with the latter defined by the use of materials and/or objects, such as textiles and textile art.en
