Streszczenie
Population ageing is a well-recognized demographic and social
phenomenon, unlike the so-called double ageing of the population
– defined as a sharp increase in the number and proportion of very old
people. This chapter is an attempt to characterize the subpopulation of
very old people, to define the onset of very old age, and to identify the
social and institutional consequences of an increase in the share of very
old people in proportion to the general population.
