The functional and ideological program of the castle in laszki murowane in the 18th century Despite the impressive scale of the project and its rich equipment, the castle in Laszki Murowane has not yet been thoroughly analysed. Roman Aftanazy’s monograph has been thus far the only comprehensive study on this subject, while particular research problems have been discussed in studies devoted to modern defensive principles, the history of monuments within the historical borders of Poland and the history of Marina Mniszech and False Dmitri. The lack of detailed studies on the 18th-century phase, which is the period of the greatest splendour of both the castle and the owner family, is particularly poignant. Only the garden plan by Henry Klein in 1734 – Plan general de chateau de Lasky, presenting a general outline of the main walls, is widely known. The reconstruction of the architectural forms and functional program of the rooms is determined by the measurement drawings from the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw, showing floor plans and views of the façade with the entrance gate and internal elevation. Antoni Oliver’s ink and watercolour works before 1815, presenting the fortification plan, the façade from the gate side, the internal elevation and floor plans, is a particularly valuable basis for the analyses. Information on the role and decoration of the rooms is contained in the allegedly undated text Opisanie zamku laszeckiego [Description of the Laszki Castle], an inventory published by Gębarowicz in 1748, the original of which is kept in the Ossolineum in Wrocław, and in two documents from 1815. The investments on the estate are also described in correspondence, e.g. in a letter to his wife of 17 August 1732, Józef Wandalin Mniszech mentioned the absence in Jaworów of “Mrozek, who now takes care of the factory in Laszki”. The castle was part of a large-scale spatial complex that included fortifications and a garden. The analysis of available sources allows for the reconstruction of the functional-ideological program of this residence in the 18th century.
