Obecność - doczesne oblicze Wieczności

Abstract

Wieczność, to nie tylko bezosobowy parametr świata lub kategoria organizująca ludzkie myślenie o czasie. Wieczność, to również obecność – odniesienie interpersonalne i trwanie osób wobec siebie. Tak rozumiana, staje się nie tyle wiecznością czegoś, lecz niezawodną, niezachwianą obecnością kogoś dla kogoś – taką, na której można polegać. Jest ona „mocna jak śmierć”, ale odwrotnie niż śmierć, budzi nadzieję. Jest też czymś więcej niż teraźniejszość. Ta ostatnia odnosi się do obiektów, które w danej chwili trwają „tu i teraz”. Natomiast wieczność, jako obecność, jest wyrazem uobecniania się osób, ich wzajemności. Jej ikoną może być „twarz”, w sensie proponowanym przez Lévinasa. Przywodzi też na myśl jego kategorię nieskończoności – źródłową, bo wcześniejszą od skończoności i warunkującą jej rozumienie. Również obecność jest źródłowa, bo tylko w jej świetle można w pełni doświadczyć fenomenu bycia osobą.

Presence as the face of Eternity. Eternity is not only an impersonal factor of the world nor the conception that organizes our notion of time. More importantly eternity is presence – interpersonal connection and constancy of being towards one another. Understood in such way, it becomes not so much the eternity that refers to something, but the unfailing, unwavering presence of one man towards the other – such presence, that one can rely on. It is „as strong as death”, but unlike death it raises hope. It is more than present time. Present refer to objects, which in a certain moment last „here and now”. Whereas eternity, as presence, is the expression of people's mutuality. It's icon can be „face” within the meaning of Lévinas. It also brings to mind his category of infinity – prior to finitude and determining its understanding. Likewise the presence, it is a source concept, as it determines experiencing the phenomenon of being a person.
