<title>Efektywność strategii wolicjonalnych u osób depresyjnych</title>

<description>Efektywność strategii wolicjonalnych u osób depresyjnych
Wytykowska, Agata M.
This study presents the investigation the efficiency of the volitional strategies in the group of&#13;
depressive person while making interpersonal decision. The theoretical basis of this study is Kuhl’s&#13;
Depression Theory. According to Kuhl’s theory an important determinants of depression are the&#13;
persevering intentional states which can not be eliminated and postponed: the so called degenerated&#13;
intentions. The degenerated intention overloads the mental resource of working memory. As a result,&#13;
enactment of a new or realistic intentions may be impaired because of unavailability of the memory&#13;
capacity needed for their execution. It leads to deficits in motivational and executive levels. This&#13;
research was done to test an efficiency of the selected volitional strategies (emotional control,&#13;
selective attention, prasimony of information processing) in experimental conditions with the well&#13;
described intention in the depressive and health group of subjects (in Kuhl’s study the degenerated&#13;
intention was inducted by experimental conditions). This study was inspired by an idea of Maria&#13;
Lewicka. The research results show the decreased efficiency of volitional strategies in the group&#13;
of depressive subjects in compare to the healthy subjects, independency of the research conditions.

The purpose of the investigation was to establish the relationship between beliefs about pain&#13;
control and pain coping strategies and predictors of pain coping strategies. 103 patients with&#13;
rheumatoid arthritis participated in the study – 59 were women, 43 men. The mean of age was&#13;
38.1. Beliefs about Pain Control (BPCQ) prepared by Skevington and Pain Coping Strategies&#13;
Questionnaire developed by Rosenstiel and Keefe were used in the study.&#13;
The results indicated on the differentiation in choice of pain coping strategies dependently&#13;
from beliefs about pain control and revealed predictors for two pain coping strategies. Predictor&#13;
of diverting attention appeared internal control and predictors of catastrophizing appeared all three&#13;
kinds of pain control.

The purpose of the study was to investigate what psychological variables contribute to the&#13;
prediction of reducing overweight in women. 78 women with overweight (M of BMI = 31.27),&#13;
aged 35–55 years (M of age = 46.8); were examined twice, before and after the programme of&#13;
reducing overweight based on psychological actions.&#13;
Eight methods were used in the study: Stress Perceived Scale, Coping Inventory for Stressful&#13;
Situations, Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale, Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale, Life Orientation Test,&#13;
Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale, State-Trait Personality and Kuhl’s Action Control&#13;
Scale.&#13;
Self-efficacy beliefs, perceiving stress, coping with stress (task and avoidance oriented strategies)&#13;
and optimism appeared predictors of reducing overweight in women.

<title>Ewaluacja programu rozwijania zdolności twórczych dzieci przedszkolnych</title>

<description>Ewaluacja programu rozwijania zdolności twórczych dzieci przedszkolnych
Poraj, Grazyna
Learning under an adult’s supervision is one of the essential conditions for child development.&#13;
For the benefit of a child’s innate liveliness and his spontaneous discovery of the world, and in&#13;
order to promote individuality, there is a call for new teaching methods at schools and nursery&#13;
schools. This, however, entails boards of competent teachers with the necessary knowlege and&#13;
skills at enhancing their pupils’ creativity and inventivess.&#13;
Polish Foundation of Children and Teenagers in Warsaw, given assistance by Bernard Van&#13;
Leer Foundation, has already prepared and carried out an educational programme intended for&#13;
ore-school teaching circles. The programme propagated new methods of teaching children aged&#13;
from 3 to 6. The presented article shows the programme’s evaluation research conducted on&#13;
children. The research tried to provide an answer to the following question: do heightened competence&#13;
of pre-school teachers’ and implementation of the new programme for working with children&#13;
affect children’s development.&#13;
The subject of analysis heavily relied on the children-made works, such sa: a picture of&#13;
a human being, a picture on a freely-chosen subject and a picture Urban-Jellen’s Creative Thinking&#13;
Test. In the research procedure both model and inspection nursery schools were taken into account.&#13;
In the model nursery schools the teachers participated in the educational programme, and, supposedly,&#13;
implemented the new programme for working with children. In the inspected nursery schools the&#13;
teachers worked under traditional guidelines for teaching. Research conducted in 1997 focused on 120 children from Lublin, Kielce and Ło´dz´: 60 from&#13;
model institutions and 60 from the inspection ones (before teachers’ training). The research was&#13;
subsequently continued in the consecutive years and finishhed up in 1999. Consequently, a very&#13;
rich, empirical material was collected, comprising qualitative analyses of the assembled children’s&#13;
works. In order to objectify the results, homogeneous (equal for all children) research conditions&#13;
were closely followed, whereas the analyses (according to carefully worked out criteria) were all&#13;
done by the author herself.&#13;
Detailed analysis of the children-made works showed that there are differences between the&#13;
children from model nursery schools and the inspection ones, in reference to constructing subject-based&#13;
pictures. Similarly, the results of Creative Thinking Test significantly differed in the researched&#13;
groups. In both cases the differences proved beneficial to the model schools children. Hence, the&#13;
heightening of pre-school teachers’ level of competence and implementation of the new programme&#13;
radically affect child development.
