The article analyzes the participation of young industrial&#13;
 workers in cultural activities organized within a work establishment.&#13;
 Tńis participation in the company's cultural life was&#13;
 analyzed in its institutional and quantitative dimensions. The&#13;
 author was trying to determine the degree and scope of respondents&#13;
 participation in this type of activities, its forms and&#13;
 kinds. Along with description of their participation in cultural&#13;
 events and work of cultural institutions, attempts were made at&#13;
 obtaining information about their participation in organization&#13;
 and promotion of cultural and educational activities in the work&#13;
 establishment, and thus participating not only in the area of&#13;
 reception of created and transferred contents. The author was&#13;
 also interested in determining the knowledge of his respondents&#13;
 about contents and organization of “cultural life" in the&#13;
 work establishment, and “degree of the interest taken by them"&#13;
 in this form of activities. Of an equally great interest was to&#13;
 define the social location of revealed differences in behavioural&#13;
 attitudes of this kind, and to examine their objective and&#13;
 social determinants. Simultaneously the author was trying to determine&#13;
 to what degree and to what extent this specific type of&#13;
 contacts with culture as offered by an industrial company to its&#13;
 employees is revealed in practice in the cultural experience of&#13;
 the respondents. It was also equally important to determine to&#13;
 what extent the functions of this quite specific cultural system&#13;
 are subject to specialization, and which of these functions play&#13;
 a predominant role, which of them are becoming gradually reduced,&#13;
 and which completely disappear.

The aim of the study, was a methodological evaluation of questions&#13;
 included in questionnaires commonly applied in sociological&#13;
 research on the social structure. The questions are analyzed&#13;
 from the point of view of their competence and effectiveness. By&#13;
 competence the author means their efficiency in providing unit&#13;
 information sought by the interviewer. Thus to determine the&#13;
 competence of a given question it is necessary to determine the&#13;
 number of significant answers. Effectiveness of the questions refers&#13;
 to their efficiency in supplying true and sought information.&#13;
 And accordingly determination of the effectiveness of a&#13;
 given question boils down to estimation of the number of accurate&#13;
 answers. The above evaluation of questionnaire questions is&#13;
 mainly based on results of verification studies carried out by a&#13;
 research team from the Department of Methods and Techniques of&#13;
 Social Studies at the University of Łódź over the period of&#13;
 1976-1977.

The article provides a sociological characteristic of teachers&#13;
 from the viewpoint of features placing this category in a&#13;
 wider social structure. The analysis encompasses also the degree&#13;
 of internal coherence of this category. It is but a fragment&#13;
 of more extensive analyses concerning the place of teachers&#13;
 in the society's macrostructure.&#13;
 The study reveals that teachers represent a socio-professional&#13;
 category, which is characterized with a specific structure&#13;
 of social features typical for the inteligentsia and here mainly&#13;
 in the area of the level of educational background and cultural&#13;
 consumption and, to a smaller extent, in the area of performed&#13;
 managerial functions (absence of expanded formal hierarchic structure&#13;
 in the education system) and income levels.&#13;
 They represent the most numerous professional category among&#13;
 the intelligentsia (not counting technicians). According to the&#13;
 estimates of the teachers themselves their social position is&#13;
 closest to that of civil officers, and it is estimated to be&#13;
 each lower than that of doctors, lawyers, and engineers. And oven&#13;
 though the teachers do not constitute an internally fully&#13;
 homogeneous category - the educational background proved to be a main dimension of differentiation - they display distinct features&#13;
 of a socio-professional group. This is confirmed among&#13;
 others by the observed strong tendency towards maintaining social&#13;
 and marital contacts within their own professional category,&#13;
 convergence of estimates as regards the socio-professional position&#13;
 held by them as well os observance of their own specific attitude&#13;
 to work or personality features.&#13;
 Summing it up the authors believe that teachers may constitute&#13;
 along with other professional categories a sociological unit&#13;
 of studies on the social structure.

In the article there are presented initial results of empiric&#13;
 researches on reception of the popular literaiure. The researches&#13;
 were based on an example of the social reception of one&#13;
 of its basic types - the detective story. Presentation of researches&#13;
 findings is preceded by a short description of the type&#13;
 of messaqe being subject to reception. The researches were carried&#13;
 on a small purposing sample. The author conducted 80 free&#13;
 interviews with respondents differentiated mainly with regard to&#13;
 their educational background. The object of the analysis was&#13;
 this fragment of colloquial responses in which different reception&#13;
 attitudes and different trends in readers' areas of interest&#13;
 were revealed. They were connected with a procedure of partial&#13;
 autonomization of different components of a literary work&#13;
 being performed by readers in the course of reading as weil as&#13;
 with organization of the reception around different substantiation&#13;
 norms. The analysis pointing at clear limitation of the social&#13;
 reception conditions in relation to popular novels simultaneously&#13;
 shows that from the point of view of reception, readers,&#13;
 attitudes, and real functions it is not a homogeneous and fully standardized area.
