<title>Spatial Quantile Regression In Analysis Of Healthy Life Years In The European Union Countries</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/11089/20681</link>
<description>Spatial Quantile Regression In Analysis Of Healthy Life Years In The European Union Countries
Trzpiot, Grażyna; Orwat-Acedańska, Agnieszka
The paper investigates the impact of the selected factors on the healthy life years of men and women in the EU countries. The multiple quantile spatial autoregression models are used in order to account for substantial differences in the healthy life years and life quality across the EU members. Quantile regression allows studying dependencies between variables in different quantiles of the response distribution. Moreover, this statistical tool is robust against violations of the classical regression assumption about the distribution of the error term. Parameters of the models were estimated using instrumental variable method (Kim, Muller 2004), whereas the confidence intervals and p-values were bootstrapped.

<title>Determinants Of Healthy Ageing For Older People In European Countries – A Spatio-Temporal Approach</title>

<description>Determinants Of Healthy Ageing For Older People In European Countries – A Spatio-Temporal Approach
Suchecka, Jadwiga; Urbaniak, Bogusława
The article aims to investigate the relationship between the length of the further life in healthy for men and women aged 65 years and selected factors in European countries in the period 2005-2012. For this purpose, following methods were used: 1/ spatial distribution of characteristics - rates of change in selected periods: 2005 and 2012, 2/ tests for dependencies using correlograms and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients, 3/ cluster analysis: on the basis of Ward’s methods spatial similarities (among countries) were indicated. As the source of data the Eurostat database were used.

<title>Using Space Syntax For Estimation Of Potential Disaster Indirect Economic Losses</title>

<description>Using Space Syntax For Estimation Of Potential Disaster Indirect Economic Losses
Penchev, Georgi
The study of applicable network measures shows that Normalised Angular Choice can be used as criteria for selecting alternatives for minimizing indirect costs caused by road network damages. At the same time, this methodology cannot be used for monetizing indirect costs or identifying losses in different economic sectors. The study approach does not contradict the main theoretical approaches and it gives new opportunities for research on disasters recovery.

<title>Comparative Analysis Of Healthcare Performance In West And South Regions Of Ukraine</title>

<description>Comparative Analysis Of Healthcare Performance In West And South Regions Of Ukraine
Pilyavskyy, Anatoliy; Aaronson, William; Matsiv, Yuriy
This study examines variations in efficiency among hospitals located in western and southern Ukraine. We estimated efficiency using a nonparemetric modeling technique known as data envelopment analysis (DEA). DEA is a very powerful tool to compare relative efficiency among several economic units of study, known as decision making units (DMUS). In our current and previous research we have focused attention on comparative efficiency among hospitals and then explained variation in efficiency based on historical and cultural differences that influence managerial behavior at the hospital level of decision making. This study using current data and an expanded geographic territory provides further support to our findings from previous studies.
