The Righteous Cause Myth in the American Civil War. Ideological Sources, Political Concepts and Implications

Abstract

The aim of this article is to present a broad interpretation of the American Civil War, as promulgated by one of the most modern dominant historical and research schools. The article attempts to consolidate the assumptions and conclusions of neo-abolitionist and nationalist (unionist) historical interpretations. The article unifies entire trend, defining it as the Righteous Cause Myth, and indicates its ideological and socio-political sources that are the basis of its analyses of the American history.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie szerokiej interpretacji wojny secesyjnej w Stanach Zjednoczonych, jaką głosi jedna z najbardziej dominujących współcześnie szkół historyczno-badawczych zajmujących się tematyką tego okresu. Artykuł podejmuje próbę skonsolidowania założeń i wniosków neo-abolicjonistycznej oraz nacjonalistycznej (unionistycznej) interpretacji historycznej. W artykule dokonano ujednolicenia całego nurtu określając go mianem mitu Sprawiedliwej Sprawy i wskazano źródła ideologiczne oraz nurty polityczne, które stanowią podstawę jego analiz dotyczących historii Stanów Zjednoczonych.
