| dc.description.abstract | The Polish traveler and diplomat Marcin Broniowski (died on September 21st, 1592) was the author of the work Tartariae descriptio (written in 1578), containing an interesting description of sixteenth-century Crimea, as well as the Crimean Khanate. On the basis of new discoveries in the Polish archives I reconstructed not only many basic elements of Marcin Broniowski’s biography, but also the exact chronology of all his visits to Crimea. My observations allow me to better describe Marcin Broniowski as a Polish diplomat and envoy. In the next three sections of my article, I intend to discuss all early modern editions and translations of Broniowski’s Tartariae descriptio, as well as an influence of this work on the knowledge about Eastern Europe and the formation of European geographical thought. | en |

Tartariae descriptio (Opis Tatarii), zawierającej interesujący opis szesnastowiecznego Krymu, a także Chanatu Krymskiego. W oparciu o nowe dane pozyskane w polskich archiwach byłem w stanie zrekonstruować nie tylko wiele podstawowych elementów biografii Marcina Broniowskiego, ale także dokładną chronologię jego wszystkich wizyt na Krymie. Moje zatem obserwacje pozwalają lepiej opisać Marcina Broniowskiego jako polskiego dyplomatę i posła. W kolejnych trzech częściach tego artykułu zamierzam omówić wszystkie wczesnonowożytne wydania i tłumaczenia Opisu Tatarii Broniowskiego, a także oddziaływanie tego utworu na stan wiedzy o Europie Wschodniej i na kształtowanie się europejskiej myśli geograficznej. | pl |
