Abstract

The study examines the authenticity characteristics of non-expert YouTubers presenting mental well-being content and the significance of this authenticity for their viewers. Through qualitative and quantitative content analysis, four dimensions of authenticity of influencers (consistency, intimacy, ordinariness, immediacy) were characterized and compared with the result of the thematic analysis of the viewers' comments. The key finding is that intimacy - a substantial feature of YouTubers’ authenticity - is not established by describing experiences per se but by creating a union of experiences with their audience through stories reflecting their followers' mental states. Ordinariness becomes less considerable, immediacy has the most minor significance. The viewers in the comments below the videos expand on the topics of the videos, express gratefulness or reveal experience of parasocial interaction. The examined channels appear to have a therapeutic effect. The relevance of the union of experience indicates a new facet of authenticity negotiation.

W badaniu przeanalizowano cechy autentyczności youtuberów nie-ekspertów prezentujących treści dotyczące dobrostanu psychicznego oraz znaczenie tej autentyczności dla ich widzów. Poprzez jakościową i ilościową analizę treści scharakteryzowano cztery wymiary autentyczności influencerów (spójność, intymność, zwyczajność, bezpośredniość) i porównano je z wynikami analizy tematycznej komentarzy widzów. W badaniu ustalono, iż intymność - kluczowa cecha autentyczności YouTuberów - nie jest ustanawiana przez youtuberów poprzez opisywanie doświadczeń per se, ale poprzez tworzenie wspólnoty doświadczeń z ich publicznościami za pośrednictwem narracji odzwierciedlających stany psychiczne widzów. Zwyczajność staje się mniej istotna, bezpośredniość ma najmniejsze znaczenie. Widzowie w komentarzach pod filmami rozwijają tematy filmów, wyrażają wdzięczność lub ujawniają doświadczenie interakcji paraspołecznej. Badane kanały wydają się mieć efekt terapeutyczny. Znaczenie wspólnoty doświadczeń wskazuje na nowy aspekt negocjacji autentyczności.
