dc.description.abstractObecność prawa rzymskiego w dziejach prawa angielskiego do niedawna nie cieszyła się szerszym zainteresowaniem nauki. W dotychczasowych badaniach odnoszono się do oderwanych od siebie zagadnień i okresów historycznych. Najbardziej wyrazistą luką badawczą pozostawało osiemnaste stulecie. Autor publikacji podjął wnikliwą analizę prawa rzymskiego. Przedstawił losy zarówno królewskich katedr prawa rzymskiego w Oksfordzie i Cambridge, jak i próby nauczania prawa starożytnych przez cywilistów - specjalistów zajmujących się prawem rzymskim, niezwiązanych z katedrami. Omówił zachowane do czasów współczesnych materiały wykładowe. Szczegółowo przeanalizował prawodawstwo uniwersyteckie związane z nadawaniem stopni bakałarza i doktora prawa w dwóch angielskich uczelniach, a także skupił się na społecznym oddziaływaniu cywilistów. Wiele miejsca poświęcił też romanistycznej literaturze angielskiej osiemnastego stulecia. Lektura książki pozwoli spojrzeć na cywilistów jak na ważny człon intelektualnej elity Anglii.pl_PL
