Неоромантизм как литературное течение
Streszczenie
The essay deals with the problem of neoromanticism as a literary trend in Western national literatures, mostly — the English one. The existing viewpoints on the problem are being discussed. The author defends the historical concept of neoromanticism as it had been formed by the concrete historical and cultural situation. The genetic connection between neoromanticism and the beginning of the XIXth-century romanticism is elucidated; some principal features of the trend (the tendency towards exotic characters and situations, the specific choice of genres, the peculiar system of characters, etc.) are described. Still, the neoromantics did not ignore in their art the XIXth-century realism's achievements; it was manifested in the way of presenting the exotic, in the increasing role of psychological insight in some genres of fiction, etc. In the works of such different writers as R. L. Stevenson and J. Conrad, R, Kipling and O. Wilde, A. Conan Doyle and G. K. Chesterton, some representatives of „Młoda Polska”, E. Rostand, H. von Hofmannsthal, J. London &os, there occured the integration of romantic and post-romantic devices. It can be termed not the revival of the canonical romanticism in the end of the XIXth century, but as the new literary trend which participated in the literary process of the period.
