Abstract

The essay deals with the genre peculiarities of The Shot by Alexander Pushkin. This masterpiece is included in The Tales oj the late [van Petrovich Belkin, but in spite of the genre definition of the whole cycle, The Shot cannot be undoubtedly called a tale. Having taken into account the modern theory of fiction as well as the various standpoints in Pushkin criticism, the authors prove that The Shot is closer to novella (short story) as a literary genre and anticipates the further evolution of Pushkin as a prose writer.
