The 'hypotyposis is one of the less popular figures of speech. It is defined as a vivid description of an event, based both on visual and auditory imagination. The article deals with the function of 'hypotyposis' in the prose of Tadeusz Miciński (1873-1918), the eminent Polish poet and novelist. Within his novels the plot is subordinate to the political discourse in order to provide the hero, and consequently the reader, with an alternative vision that allows an escape from the blind alley of narrow rationalism and other 'false' ideas. This general rule is ałso realised in the structure of the plot: a young man at the cross-roads decision is taught by a wise old man and a young soulful girl. However, this act of teaching is supported by a simultaneous and discreet (or even hidden) act of persuasion. 'Hypotyposis is oiten used as an argument in the field of the 'silent persuasion. On the surface, it is only an engaging description drawing the attention of readers to the presented situation, but this attractive image, no doubt, bears the traits of a specific order of things, of an ideology which is the main object of the text.pl_PL
