Work-life programmes are designed to reconcile employees’ working time with their private time. The programmes can make working time utilisation more rational and increase productivity, if the type and mode of work match employees’ capabilities. These programmes should focus on helping the employees use their working time effectively. This means that the term “work-life con- flict” cannot be actually considered without the term “family responsibilities”, which reveals the complexity of the presented subject area. Practices applied in the EU to help employees maintain work-life balance are determined by historically formed and frequently country-specific family models in the member states. The article shows how companies’ cultural determinants of HRM and diverse family-oriented policy in Sweden obviously shape the employees’ possibilities of rec- onciling work with family responsibilities.pl_PL
