Streszczenie
According to Milan Kundera, rewriting embodies the spirit of our
times. Marguerite Duras’s rewritten narratives confirm the accuracy of
this statement. In my intertextual analysis of L’Amant de la Chine du Nord
I demonstrate that rewriting offers an optimal narrative space to accommodate
feminist and postcolonial discourses. We should not lose sight of
the fact that these two categories have recently been, and still are, at the
centre of most sociocultural debates. As for the technicalities of rewriting,
I prove that, in Julie Sanders’ terms, durassian novel represents an
intersection of ‘adaptation’ and ‘appropriation’, which is a very uncommon
situation for a rewritten piece of literature.
