<title>Wodzowie Zenona (474–491) i Anastazjusza I (491–518): Nr XLIX</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/11089/59373</link>
<description>Wodzowie Zenona (474–491) i Anastazjusza I (491–518): Nr XLIX
W drugiej w ogólnym zarysie scharakteryzowani zostali przeciwnicy, z którymi przyszło się im potykać, a wiec Persowie, Goci i Izauryjczycy i losy zmagań z nimi w czasach Zenona i Anastazjusza. Wreszcie część trzecia poświęcona została im samym (Areobind, Armatus, Celer, Faresmanes, Hypacjusz, Illus, Jan Garbus, Jan Scyta, Leoncjusz, Longin, Marcjan, Patrycjusz, Sabinian Wielki, Trokundes, Witalian). Poszczególne teksty zostały zbudowane, o ile pozwalała na to baza źródłowa, według następującego schematu: pochodzenie, wykształcenie, kariera (wojskowa, cywilna), wizerunek w źródłach, rodzina, ocena dokonań w sferze militarnej.; The aim of this book is to present the reader, not only a professional historian, with the profiles of a dozen or so Byzantine commanders who were active during the years 474–518 and who, for a variety of reasons, drew our attention. Although the book does not provide the portraits of all the commanders of Emperors Zeno and Anastasius, it covers almost all of those about whom the surviving sources allowed us to say something substantial. Our goal was to give an account not only of their military careers, but also, where possible, of the other aspects of their lives. The book is in three parts. The first presents the Byzantine army whose troops remained under the command of the heroes of this book. The second part outlines Byzantium’s opponents, those against whom the commanders in question happened to wage wars – the Persians, the Goths, and the Isaurians. It also briefly recounts the course of these wars during the reigns of Zeno and Anastasius. The third part is devoted to the commanders themselves (Areobindus, Armatus, Celer, Faresmanes, Hypatius, Illus the Isaurian, John the Hunchback (Kyrtos), John the Scytian, Leontius, Longinus, Marcian, Patricius, Sabinianus the Great, Trocundes, Vitalian). Texts published in this volume are organized, as far as the sources permitted, according to the following scheme: descent, education, career (civil and military), picture in the sources, family, and military accomplishments.

The first months of the Second World War were particularly tragic in the area of the former&#13;
Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland. The Germans exterminated local elites, people with disabilities&#13;
and disorders, farmers, and workers, as well as a small number of members of the local Jewish&#13;
community. Relatively little is known about these events because traces of the crimes were&#13;
covered up—victims’ bodies were hidden in mass graves, records were burned, and in the second&#13;
half of 1944, the so-called Aktion 1005 took place in Pomerania. The first grave to be discovered&#13;
archaeologically of people with mental disorders or disabilities, defined in Nazi ideology as “life&#13;
unworthy of life” (Lebensunwertes Leben), was studied in 2024 in Death Valley in Chojnice. This&#13;
article demonstrates the fundamental role of archaeology in documenting and examining the&#13;
traces of mass crimes. It presents archaeology as an important mission with social, cultural,&#13;
historical, and humanitarian significance.

Kobiałka, Dawid; Rogóż, Joanna; Czarnik, Michał; Stępnik, Jakub; Mazanowska, Izabela; Muñoz-Encinar, Laura; Ceran, Tomasz
The dataset includes illustrative material used in the article "Archaeology and "Life Unworthy of Life:" The Extermination of People with Mental Disorders or Disabilities in Death Valley, Chojnice, Poland, published in the Journal of Field Archaeology. It discusses the mass murder of mentally ill people that took place in the autumn of 1939 in Gdańsk Pomerania, Poland. A case study is provided of the mass murder committed near Chojnice—in a place later named Death Valley. The key part of the article is a discussion of the results of archaeological research that allowed for the discovery, documentation, and interpretation of the remains of the victims.

<title>Estetyczne i etyczne aspekty współczesnej antropologii</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/11089/58876</link>
<description>Estetyczne i etyczne aspekty współczesnej antropologii
Zbigniewa Libery).
