<title>Palaeoenvironmental conditions and human-environment relationships in the Stone Age and the Bronze Age in Southern Belarus</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/11089/59429</link>
<description>Palaeoenvironmental conditions and human-environment relationships in the Stone Age and the Bronze Age in Southern Belarus
Tsvirka, Dzmitry
The main objective of the study was to reconstruct landscape evolution, palaeoenvironmental conditions, and human-environment interactions during the Stone Age and the Bronze Age in the area of the Kakoryca-4 archaeological site. The dissertation is primarily focused on the study of geological deposits in the vicinity of the Kakoryca-4 site. The Kakoryca-4 site is located on the territory of the Belarusian Polesie in the basin of the Yaselda River and Lake Sporovskoye, on a small rounded elevation formed by fluvial deposits.&#13;
During the research, a wide range of analytical methods was employed, including radiocarbon dating, pollen and plant macrofossil analyses, geochemical and sedimentological analyses, as well as the use of cartographic and archaeological materials.&#13;
As a result of the study, a model of the palaeogeographical evolution of the Kakoryca-4 site surroundings was constructed. For selected time periods, reconstructions of geological processes, regional and local vegetation, transgressions and regressions of Lake Sporovskoye, as well as phases of floods and erosional activity of the Yaselda River were elaborated. Possible responses of prehistoric societies to natural changes have been proposed.&#13;
In addition to the investigation of the Kakoryca-4 site, the author conducted several supplementary studies aimed at resolving specific methodological problems. These included the study of bottom sediments from the Zarzetka oxbow lake and the palaeolake marked with the symbol “OST2B”, both situated in Poland. The Zarzetka oxbow is located in the Bug River valley floor. The palaeolake OST2B is located in Northern Poland in the immediate vicinity of the Ostrowite archaeological complex.

<title>Urban space regeneration of industrial heritage cities – the comparative study of textile manufacturing in Lodz and Yazd</title>

<description>Urban space regeneration of industrial heritage cities – the comparative study of textile manufacturing in Lodz and Yazd
Dehghan Pour Farashah, Mohammadhossein
This dissertation investigates the role of industrial heritage in shaping urban regeneration, sociocultural identity, and heritage tourism, with a comparative focus on Łódź, Poland, and Yazd, Iran—two cities with historically significant textile manufacturing sectors. Drawing upon critical heritage studies and the Historic Urban Landscape approach, the research explores the multifaceted values of industrial heritage, including social, cultural, economic, and spatial dimensions, and examines strategies for its sustainable integration into contemporary urban development. The dissertation is structured around six empirical and conceptual studies. The first study develops a conceptual framework for applying the Historic Urban Landscape principles to industrial heritage regeneration, emphasizing recognition, partnership, diagnosis, and intervention to operationalize stakeholder-inclusive planning. Subsequent studies investigate the socio-economic and cultural significance of textile heritage sites in Yazd, highlighting that adaptive reuse can generate economic value, enhance collective memory through community involvement, and facilitate phased restoration strategies. Parallel research in Łódź examines local communities’ construction of memory and identity related to textile heritage, revealing complex, generationally and class-informed perceptions shaped by nostalgia, economic decline, and urban transformation. Further studies evaluate stakeholders’ perspectives on integrating Łódź’s industrial heritage into tourism, identifying gaps and opportunities for inclusive, sustainable, and culturally resonant tourism practices. Complementary analyses in Yazd develop a model for promoting industrial heritage tourism by leveraging abandoned textile factories’ potential for adaptive reuse, event hosting, and socio-economic revitalization. The dissertation concludes with a comparative investigation of urban regeneration strategies in Łódź and Yazd, emphasizing the importance of balancing public-private investment, enhancing accessibility, and preserving cultural heritage values while achieving socio-economic and social outcomes. Collectively, these studies advance understanding of industrial heritage as a dynamic agent of urban regeneration and community identity formation. The dissertation contributes theoretical and practical insights into stakeholder-driven planning, adaptive reuse, and the operationalization of the Historic Urban Landscape framework in industrial heritage contexts. By integrating comparative perspectives across European and Middle Eastern contexts, the research offers transferable strategies for policymakers, urban planners, and heritage managers to promote equitable, culturally informed, and sustainable urban transformation within industrial districts.

<title>Data set for the publication "What Is the Cost of Urban Flooding? Changes in Travel and Emission Costs of Łódź's Transport System in Poland" (dataset)</title>

This dataset contains spatial data representing areas potentially affected by urban pluvial flooding in Łódź, Poland. The data were generated using a Blue Spot modelling approach implemented in SCALGO Live and provide a spatially explicit representation of potential surface-water accumulation under defined rainfall conditions.&#13;
The modelling was based on a high-resolution 1 m LiDAR-derived Digital Elevation Model and included the identification of terrain depressions, their contributing catchment areas, surface flow paths, and spill points determining the potential propagation of accumulated water. Two rainfall scenarios were considered: a 15-minute rainfall event with a 20% exceedance probability and the maximum observed daily rainfall. Infiltration losses were estimated using the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) method, incorporating detailed land-cover information. The resulting spatial layers describe the potential extent and depth of water accumulation within individual terrain depressions.&#13;
The dataset represents scenario-based urban flood susceptibility rather than the reconstruction or prediction of a specific historical flood event. The modelling does not incorporate the existing stormwater drainage network and should therefore be interpreted as a conservative stress-test condition, approximating situations in which the drainage system is overwhelmed or blocked. The data can support analyses of urban flood exposure, infrastructure vulnerability, transport disruption, and spatial planning for urban resilience.
The deposited dataset comprises geospatial layers representing the modelled extent and characteristics of potential urban pluvial flooding in Łódź, Poland. Flood-prone areas were delineated using the Blue Spot methodology implemented in SCALGO Live. The modelling workflow used a 1 m spatial-resolution LiDAR-derived Digital Elevation Model (DEM) to identify closed terrain depressions, determine their contributing catchment areas, derive surface-flow paths, and establish spill points controlling overflow and cascading water transfer between neighbouring depressions.&#13;
Water accumulation was simulated for two rainfall scenarios: (1) a 15-minute rainfall event with a 20% exceedance probability and (2) the maximum observed daily rainfall. Rainfall losses due to infiltration were parameterised using the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) method. Curve Number values were assigned using detailed land-cover information derived from high-resolution aerial imagery and AI-based classification into eleven land-cover classes. Effective runoff was subsequently calculated and routed to individual terrain depressions.&#13;
The resulting geospatial data provide information on the location and spatial extent of potentially inundated areas and modelled water depth within individual Blue Spots. The dataset does not account for the operation or capacity of the existing stormwater drainage network and should therefore be interpreted as a conservative hydrological stress-test scenario rather than an observed flood footprint or deterministic prediction of a specific flood event.&#13;
The dataset was used in the following publication:&#13;

<title>Turystyka – gra o wszystko?</title>

<description>Turystyka – gra o wszystko?
This text is devoted to conceptual reflections on issues where politics intersects with tourism and uses it to achieve its goals. The author shares her analytical insights, which emerged during her field research and literature reviews conducted for her doctoral dissertation. These insights represent only a fragment of the broader research issue the author deals with on a daily basis. Nevertheless, they were deemed significant enough to be presented in a separate publication, which takes the form of a conceptual essay. The text is therefore not a conclusive research analysis of the topics discussed, but rather an introduction to further academic inquiry and sets the direction for future discussions and reflections. Its purpose is to present the author’s own thoughts. Similar to the text published by the author in the previous volume of “Warsztaty z Geografii Turyzmu”, the way in which the information is presented was inspired by the approach of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who focused on presenting his own reflections, thereby avoiding an excess of citations.
