The article presents and analyses types of space existing in the literary output of Olga&#13;
Tokarczuk. The author focuses on exploring two triple divisions of this phenomenon. First&#13;
division deals with an area understood as both open and closed sites, and objects. The second&#13;
division distinguishes realistic space (specific events and places), internal (a hero’s psychology&#13;
and a relationship between a human being and a place) and mythical (placing reality in myth).

The category of late archeological narrative, related to science-fiction, is distingushed due&#13;
to thematic criterion. The plot is based on a motif of excavations. The heroes, situated in&#13;
distant future, are usually research workers, studying the lost civilisation. However, they have&#13;
nothing but excavation for their research, because of discontinuity of culture, due to the erlier&#13;
great dissaster (for instance the total war). This is why their investigation turns out to be&#13;
vain: the argumentation is correct, but deduction is false, that is obvious for a learner. The&#13;
learner can easily recognize the lost civilisation, the subject of research in the presented world,&#13;
as his own contemporaneousness. Late archeological narrative is a kind o f mental experiment,&#13;
that presents limitations of science and of human capibility to make the past known. There&#13;
are few novels in Polish literature, representing this trend; in my opinion, it hasen’t exhausted&#13;
its artistic possibilities yet.

Dés le debut de sa creation poétique, Adriana Szymańska (qui a débiuté en 1968 avec&#13;
son recueil Les cieux quolidiens) s’est concentrée sur la notion ďexistentialisme. Sa poésie lie&#13;
des elements ďun journal intime qui décrit les experiences personnelles á des questions métaphysiques et exprime une reflexion concernant la souffrance du corps, la nature des&#13;
relations interpcrsonnalles, la vie intérieure et le role de (’imagination poétique pour survivre&#13;
dans le quolidien. Dans le recueil Une soudaine éternité (1984), considéré par la critique comrae&#13;
une révolution dans sa création, on remarque une reflexion poétique sur la fuitc du temps,&#13;
le caractére éphémére d ’un instant et les pensées sur ľhomme face á (’heritage culturel et á la&#13;
religion. Une vision du monde comylétement differente est présenlée dans le recueil La pierre&#13;
au hord de la route (1993) et dans les recueils suivants Requiem avee les oiseaux (1996), Les&#13;
conies de ľespac.e (1999), L'été 1999 (2000). Dans les recueils, le point de repére important&#13;
est l’aspecl religieux. La foi qui contient les faiblesses et les défauts de la nature humaine,&#13;
la deference et la confiance infinie en dieu se melent dans les expressions poétiqucs á des&#13;
questions multiples concernant le sens de ľ existence et la possibililé de connaissance.

<summary type="text">"Zatopiony cały w ciemnych promieniach ziemi" - o "Telefonie" Zbigniewa Herberta

The essay presents reflection upon Herbert’s piece entitled “The Telephone”. Due to some&#13;
text changes made in the poem, ail three versions available in print have been taken into account.&#13;
“The Telephone” has been considered against the deep background of Herbert’s poetry&#13;
and some literary works of Thomas Merton and Czeslaw Milosz.&#13;
According to the interpretation found in the essay, Herbert’s piece appears to be&#13;
a testimony to poet’s concern with the spiritual shape of the present day. ‘The Telephone” seems to be the expression of poet’s specific and original attitude towards oriental influence&#13;
on contemporary culture, too.
