The article illustrates ways of perceiving irony in Old Polish literature, especially in the
Owlglass literature created between 16th and 17th century in Poland. The main goal of this
work is to analyse fragments of texts classified into three groups connected with three genres
of literature: drama, epic and lyrics. It is crucial not only to analyze them, but also to indicate
various ways of creating ironic announcements and to reveal the difference between irony and
comedy. Moreover, it is important to know whether this irony is a carrier of comedy or if it
can exist independently next to comedy. Therefore, it is vital to show how the 16th century
reality influenced the authors of Owlglass literature and whether it had any impact on their
literature and was mirrored by the irony targeting politics, priests and burghers.

This article focuses on Polish science fiction of the 70’s and 80’s in the 20th century. It seeks
to present the way the writers used artistic strategies for creating the parable of the Polish
political reality. The analyses of the vision of the presented world refer to the works by Janusz
A. Zajdel, Wiktor Żwikiewicz, Marek Oramus and Edmund Wnuk-Lipiński.

The metaphor of a journey arranges and explains the literary work by Ryszard Krynicki, its
evolution, the presented world, and idea. The journey is one of the most important key words
and motifs of Krynicki’s poetry, and a metaphor of human destiny. The term – artistic
journey, related to this work, is more than a trite metaphor. Krynicki’s road leads from
nothingness, the world without norms, values, the world of illusory existence, towards
Nothingness, The Absolute. The writer should be seen as a seeker that completed
a fascinating, complicated journey in pursuit of excellence, artistic, moral, and spiritual, as
a man responsible for the word. Ryszard Krynicki’s literary journey leads from chaos to
cosmos, from logorea to Logos, from the fall to prospective redemption.
